How free editing works, what AI-first means, and what to expect from local and connected features.
Is CutAway free?
Yes. Core editing tools, the multi-lane timeline, local AI tools, and full-resolution export presets are free to use. Some optional content and upgrades may be offered separately.
What does AI-first mean?
AI-first means assistance is available inside the editing workflow where it can save time — such as captions, background separation, and automatic first cuts. It does not replace manual control: you can refine the result on the full timeline or edit without AI assistance.
Which devices can run CutAway?
CutAway is built for Android 8.0 and later. Performance depends on media resolution, codec, project complexity, and the hardware available on your device.
Can I edit without an internet connection?
Core importing, timeline editing, text, stickers, audio, effects, and export are designed to work with local media. Downloading catalog content, account sync, and cloud-assisted features need a connection.
Do I need an account?
No account is required to begin editing locally. Sign-in is optional and is used for connected services such as project sync when those services are enabled.
What can I edit on the timeline?
The timeline supports primary and secondary video, text, stickers, music, voiceover, and original audio lanes. You can trim, split, position, reorder, change speed, adjust volume, and hide, lock, mute, or solo supported layers.
Which export formats are available?
CutAway currently exports H.264/AAC MP4. You can choose custom quality settings or use presets for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and WhatsApp.
Which AI tools are available?
AI tools can assist with captions, background separation, and automatic first cuts. Experimental tools are clearly marked and opt-in. Features that use connected processing ask for consent before first use.
What are Content Credentials?
Content Credentials are provenance metadata that can travel with supported exports. They can help compatible tools understand where a file came from and what kinds of edits were applied.
Where are my projects and media stored?
Projects and source media are local by default. Optional project sync can store project information for signed-in users, while media files remain on the device.
How do I report a bug or suggest an improvement?
Use the contact page or email us. Include your Android version, device model, and the steps that reproduce the problem when possible.
